Timmins Reports Bypass Event at Mattagami Water Pollution Control Plant on April 18, 2025

The City of Timmins reported a bypass event at the Mattagami Water Pollution Control Plant on April 18, 2025. According to the City, the bypass took place from 7:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and involved 10,000 cubic metres of flow being discharged through the plant outfall to the Mattagami River.

The City stated that the bypass was caused by heavy rainfall, which resulted in increased flows at the facility. During the event, primary treatment was provided, but secondary treatment was not applied to the bypassed flow, according to city officials.

In line with provincial requirements, the City reported that signage was posted along the Mattagami River to notify the public. The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) was informed of the event, with a detailed report submitted as required by the MECP.
