Timmins to repair watermain break on Murray Street Sept. 16

Timmins will repair a watermain break on Murray Street on Wednesday, Sept. 16, with work scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the city’s Environmental Services Department. The repair is expected to affect Murray Street between Hart Street and the Children’s Playground.

Residents and businesses in the area may see short-term changes to their water service during the work, including low water pressure and discoloured water.

The city said brown or rust-coloured water may occur during the repair period. The Environmental Services Department advised people not to drink discoloured water or use it to wash laundry.

The city said the discoloured water “is not harmful to your health,” but it can stain laundry.

If discoloured water occurs, the city advised residents to stop running their taps for 10 to 20 minutes to allow crews to finish their work.

After crews have completed flushing and left the area, the city advised residents to run cold water from the tap closest to the water source, which it said is usually a laundry tub tap. The city said to let the cold water run for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
