Town of Cochrane appoints Sahil Datt as chief financial officer starting Oct. 1

The Town of Cochrane has hired Sahil Datt as its chief financial officer, with his appointment set to take effect Oct. 1, 2026, according to a Sept. 10 news release.

The chief financial officer is part of the town’s senior leadership team and is responsible for financial strategy, budgeting, capital planning and treasury functions.

In the release, Chief Administrative Officer Daniel Gagnon said Datt’s experience includes presenting financial analysis in a way that can be used by council and residents.

Datt has more than 13 years of municipal and public-sector finance experience, the release said. It also said he has provided financial oversight across operating and capital budgets ranging from $20 million to $600 million.

Most recently, Datt worked for the Town of Altona, Man., where he managed an approximately $20 million annual operating and capital budget.

His earlier career includes finance roles at The Ottawa Hospital, Algonquin College, Canada Post and the Canadian Armed Forces.

Datt holds a CPA, CGA designation and an MBA from Queen’s University, according to the release.

Datt said his goal is “to be a steady, transparent hand” on the town’s finances so “Council and residents alike feel confident in where we are headed.”
