Town of Cochrane hiring temporary full-time clerk assistant; applications due Sept. 30

The Town of Cochrane is accepting applications for a temporary full-time clerk assistant position, an 18-month maternity-leave replacement, with applications due by 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026.

The job supports the town’s clerk’s department, which is responsible for tasks tied to council and committee business, including meeting preparation, records and public notices, as outlined in the posting.

According to the posting dated Sept. 14, the position pays $52,318 to $58,893 and includes benefits and a defined-benefit pension.

The schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with evening meetings as required.

Reporting to the clerk, the clerk assistant provides administrative, legislative and customer service support. Duties listed in the posting include assisting with council, committee and board meeting preparation; records management; public notices; licensing; election administration; correspondence; research; and general departmental coordination.

The town says the role is intended to support the clerk’s statutory responsibilities and does not independently exercise the statutory authority of the clerk or deputy clerk.

Minimum qualifications include a post-secondary diploma or certificate in business administration, office administration, public administration, municipal administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with at least three years’ experience in an office environment.

The posting says knowledge of municipal operations and local government procedures, plus familiarity with legislation including the Municipal Act, the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and the Municipal Elections Act, would be considered an asset.

Completion of AMCTO’s Municipal Administration Program and knowledge of the TOMRMS filing system (or a similar system) are also listed as assets, but not required.

Other requirements listed include proficiency with Microsoft Office and iCompass, proficiency in both English and French, and the ability to obtain a clear criminal record check and a clean driver’s abstract.

The posting lists an application deadline of Sept. 30 at 3 p.m., and also says the position will remain open until it is filled.
