Unbranded pistachio kernels sold at North Vancouver market recalled for Salmonella risk: CFIA
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on Oct. 7 for unbranded “Pistachio Kernel” sold in bulk at Kourosh Foods Market, 1860 Lonsdale Ave., North Vancouver, due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall was triggered by CFIA test results, and no illnesses have been reported. The product was distributed in British Columbia.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious illness. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The recalled product is listed as “Pistachio Kernel” with no brand, sold in variable sizes. All UPC codes starting with 200422 are included. Packages are marked “Packed on 25 MA 26.” The recalling firm is Kourosh Foods Market at the North Vancouver address above.
The agency advises consumers and businesses not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. Recalled items should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. The agency also advises anyone who believes they became sick after consuming the product to contact a healthcare provider.
CFIA is conducting a food-safety investigation that may lead to additional recalls and is verifying that industry is removing the product from the marketplace. The alert is classified as a Class 2 food recall warning in the category “Food – Nuts, grains, and seeds.” The recall identification number is RA-78190.
