Canadian Government Announces $250 Rebate for Workers
The Canadian government has announced plans to introduce a new financial rebate aimed at working Canadians. This initiative, known as the Working Canadians Rebate, is set to provide a $250 tax-free payment to approximately 18.7 million Canadians. The rebate is expected to be distributed in early spring 2025.
Eligibility for the rebate includes Canadians who worked in 2023 and had an individual net income of up to $150,000. Additional criteria require individuals to have filed their 2023 tax return by December 31, 2024, and to have claimed specific tax credits or reported income related to employment insurance or pension plans. Recipients must also be residents of Canada as of March 31, 2025, and not be incarcerated or deceased by April 1, 2025.
The Canada Revenue Agency is preparing to distribute the rebate automatically through direct deposit or cheque to those who meet the eligibility requirements.
