CFIA recalls Ofood Mild Ssamjang soy paste over undeclared peanut

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on Sept. 8 for Ofood brand Mild Ssamjang Original Seasoned Soybean Paste sold across Canada, after the agency said the product contains peanut that is not properly declared on the label.

The warning matters for anyone with a peanut allergy or sensitivity. CFIA said those consumers should not eat the recalled products because exposure may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

CFIA said consumers should check whether they have the recalled products at home. The agency said the products should not be served, used, sold or distributed. CFIA also said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

The recalled Ofood Mild Ssamjang Original Seasoned Soybean Paste products are:

170 g — UPC 8 801052 048192
500 g — UPC 8 801052 048215
1 kg — UPC 8 801052 048208

The recall applies to all codes where peanut is not declared on the bilingual label.

CFIA said the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint and that no reactions have been reported in connection with the products.

The agency said it is conducting a food safety investigation that could lead to additional recalls. CFIA also said it is verifying that the recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.

The recall is classified as Class 1 and has identification number RA-82606. The recalling firms are Lemond Food Corp. and Seoul Trading Corp.
