CFIA Survey Finds No Potato Wart in 2200+ Soil Samples

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recently completed its 2024 National Potato Wart Survey and found no presence of potato wart in the tested soil samples. The survey involved analyzing more than 2200 soil samples from seed potato fields in various provinces, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.

This annual survey aims to monitor the presence of the potato wart disease, which can significantly impact potato agriculture. The CFIA conducts these surveys to ensure there is no emergence of potato wart in the regions surveyed. The results demonstrate that potato crops in the sampled areas continue to be free of this disease threat.
