Emergency watermain repair on Bristol Road may affect water pressure and colour in Porcupine east of river bridge

An emergency watermain repair on Bristol Road in Timmins could cause low or fluctuating water pressure and discoloured tap water in Porcupine for homes and businesses east of the Porcupine River Bridge. The disruption began at about 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 21, and the City of Timmins estimates repairs will be completed by noon on Oct. 22.

Residents and businesses in the affected area may notice changes to water service while the repair is underway, including lower pressure and water that appears yellow, brown or reddish.

The City of Timmins said the notification area covers all locations in Porcupine east of the Porcupine River Bridge.

If tap water is discoloured, the city advised residents not to drink or use it. The city said the discolouration is not harmful to health, but can stain laundry.

The city also advised running a cold-water tap — preferably an outside tap or a cold basement tap — for five to 15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.

The city also advised residents to avoid using hot water or doing laundry until the water runs clear.

The notice was issued by the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department.
