Kapuskasing Delegation Attends AMO Conference in Ottawa

Members of the Town of Kapuskasing attended the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa. The delegation participated in three meetings as part of the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM). Discussions included changes to the Mental Health Act with the Ministry of Health, and the uploading of sections of highways 11 and 17 with the Ministry of Transportation to reduce financial burdens on northern municipalities.

A joint delegation with representatives from Kapuskasing, Hearst, Cochrane, and Chapleau met with the Minister of Forestry to discuss long-term plans for the forest industry. Additional meetings were held with the New Democratic Party of Canada and Green Party of Ontario caucuses.

Mayor Plourde also met with Ontario Power Generation on project development and will meet with the Minister of Long-Term Care regarding additional long-term care beds in Kapuskasing. During the conference, Mayor Plourde was elected to the AMO Board of Directors - Northern Caucus.

AMO develops policy positions, liaises with provincial government representatives, and informs the public on municipal issues.
