Lane reductions in effect at Ross Avenue and Toke Street in Timmins during curb and median work

Temporary lane reductions are in place at Ross Avenue and Toke Street in Timmins while city crews extend the curbs and install a raised median.

The work affects a well-used stretch of Ross Avenue, and drivers can expect the lane reduction east of Toke Street to start farther back than before. The city has not provided an end date for the lane reductions.

The City of Timmins said the work is part of improvements tied to the community safety zone area on Ross Avenue. According to the city’s disruption notice, the project includes curb extensions and a raised median at the intersection.

The city said the curb extensions narrow the roadway to help reduce vehicle speeds. The existing pedestrian crossing at Ross Avenue and Toke Street is not affected, the notice said.

East of the intersection, the four-lane reduction will begin farther back on Ross Avenue because of the changes, according to the notice.

After the work is finished, a dedicated westbound left-turn lane onto Toke Street will be added, the city said.

The notice also references Bylaw 2025-9107, approved April 8, 2025, which the city said created a community safety zone on Ross Avenue from Patricia Boulevard to Highway 655.
