North Cobalt ski hill, Temagami lodge receive provincial tourism funding

Ontario announced more than $1.8 million in Northern tourism funding on Nov. 5, 2026, including $208,004 for equipment upgrades at Tri-Town Ski Village in North Cobalt and $31,000 for Temagami Outpost to expand into year-round operations. The funding comes through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to help 11 companies improve or launch operations across Northern Ontario.

Mark Howey, president of Tri-Town Ski and Snowboard Village, said the funding would help expand operating hours and improve equipment reliability.

Tri-Town Ski Village will use the funding to install an air conditioning unit and buy equipment, including a refurbished snow groomer. The hill offers skiing, snowboarding and tubing.

Temagami Outpost will use its $31,000 allocation for a new guest cabin and upgrades to its facilities and infrastructure. The off-grid lodge and outfitter offers cabin rentals, outdoor recreation and guided experiences.

Nicolas De Ruiter, Temagami Outpost’s managing director, said NOHFC support since the property’s purchase in 2020 had helped improve accommodations and create opportunities for a longer season for staff.

Howey said the North Cobalt ski facility has operated for 70 years.
