Ontario Government and OMA Finalize Physician Services Agreement
TORONTO — The Ontario government has announced an agreement with the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) regarding the first year of a new four-year physician services agreement (PSA). This agreement follows the decision made by Arbitrator Kaplan.
The agreement builds upon the existing $17.5 billion that the province allocates for connecting residents to family doctors and primary care services. This amount represents a 50% increase compared to the funding levels when the current government took office in 2018.
Key components of the agreement include:
- Continued investment in establishing more primary care teams.
- Enhancement of digital tools through Health811.
- Expansion of medical school spots.
- Initiatives to reduce barriers for internationally-trained doctors.
The government aims to work collaboratively with the OMA to further expand access to family doctors and primary care services, particularly in northern Ontario. The implementation of this agreement is expected to facilitate connections to high-quality, patient-centered care for residents across the province.
