Ontario has introduced the Fortress Am-Can initiative, a project designed to enhance the energy and electricity grid between Canada and the United States. The initiative aims to increase the export of Canadian energy to the U.S. by utilizing Ontario's nuclear power resources and developing new infrastructure.
Key components of the project include the use of Ontario's nuclear power plants and small modular nuclear reactors. The initiative also plans to develop and reinforce electricity transmission interties and natural gas and oil pipelines across the border.
A cross-border working group will be established to focus on power system security, promoting collaboration between Canada and the United States.
Premier Doug Ford commented on the initiative, stating that the government has an ambitious plan to build up Fortress Am-Can. Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification, noted that the Am-Can Growth Plan aims to harness Ontario's energy resources to deliver energy security and economic benefits for families on both sides of the border.
The project is expected to play a significant role in the economic relationship between the two countries, focusing on energy security and job creation.
