Ontario Ministry of Education Releases EQAO Assessment Results

The Ontario Ministry of Education has released the latest results from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments. According to the statement, the results indicate stabilization in student learning following disruptions caused by the pandemic. The Ministry attributes this to its focus on core learning and practical skills development.

The Ministry highlighted several initiatives, including a $165 million investment in literacy and math programs. Additionally, the Ministry reported an increase in educational staff since 2017-18, with nearly 3,500 educational assistants and almost 3,000 teachers added.

The Ministry also noted the implementation of a ban on cell phones in classrooms, which it claims has led to increased student focus and face-to-face interactions. The language curriculum was updated in 2023 to emphasize basic literacy skills, critical thinking, and digital media literacy.

The EQAO results showed improvements in math scores across all age groups over the past two years. Specific gains were noted in the Limestone District School Board and Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon for Grade 3 math, and in the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board for Grade 6 math.

The Ministry plans to continue implementing curriculum changes aimed at strengthening students' core skills.
