RCMP Horse Auction to be Held Online Starting September 23, 2024
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will hold its annual horse auction online through GCSurplus, starting September 23, 2024. The auction will feature five young horses from the RCMP's breeding program, including three yearlings and two weanlings. Bidding will start at $5,000. The auction will run for ten days, and interested buyers can view detailed information about each horse, including photographs and videos, on the GCSurplus website.
The RCMP has been breeding horses since 1939, and the program is known for producing Hanoverian horses, which are used in various equestrian disciplines. Horses that do not join the Musical Ride team are sold to support the breeding program. The Musical Ride is a performance by a troop of RCMP officers and their horses, showcasing intricate figures and cavalry drills choreographed to music. The Musical Ride tours nationally and internationally, raising funds for local charities and non-profit groups.
To participate in the auction, buyers must register on the GCSurplus website. Registered users can receive notifications about the auction and other related updates. The RCMP and GCSurplus ensure the ethical treatment of the horses throughout the auction process.
