Tenants evacuated after Timmins fire at Bruce Avenue and Crawford Street; no injuries reported
Timmins fire crews evacuated tenants from a three-storey, multi-unit residential building at the corner of Bruce Avenue and Crawford Street on Tuesday, Aug. 18, after responding to reports of smoke at about 3:46 p.m., according to the City of Timmins. No injuries were reported.
Some residents were displaced by the fire and received assistance from the Canadian Red Cross, the city said.
The Timmins Fire Department said crews from Stations 2, 4 and 5 were dispatched to the scene. Fire crews reported heavy black smoke coming from the building.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, then worked to clear smoke and check for remaining hot spots, the city said.
The fire department’s Fire Prevention Division is investigating, and no cause has been determined, according to the city.
In its notice, the Timmins Fire Department reminded residents to make sure smoke alarms are working on every level of their home and outside sleeping areas, and to have a home escape plan.
