Timmins Police Execute Search Warrants, Seize Drugs and Firearms
In mid-April 2024, the Timmins Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit, in conjunction with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) Drug Unit, commenced a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation. On June 19, 2024, the investigation led to the execution of three search warrants at residences on Kirby Street, Dale Avenue, and Notre Dame Trailer Park in Timmins. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted in the operation.
As a result of the warrants, four individuals were arrested, and a quantity of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine was seized. Additionally, several long guns, three handguns, a prohibited weapon, Canadian currency, and high-capacity magazines were confiscated.
The following individuals were arrested and are awaiting a bail hearing:
- Larry Chapman, 38, of Timmins, charged with:
- Three counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine, Opioid other than heroin, Methamphetamine)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order
- Matthieu Trudel, 41, of Timmins, charged with:
- Two counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine, Opioid other than heroin)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Two counts of Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Isaiah Swainson, 22, of North York, charged with:
- Two counts of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine, Opioid other than heroin)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
The seized items include:
- 762 grams of cocaine
- 375 grams of fentanyl
- 110 grams of crystal methamphetamine
- A small quantity of methamphetamine tablets
- Three long guns (a .22 calibre rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun, a 30-06 rifle)
- Two Glock 9mm pistols
- One 44 magnum revolver
- One Striborg 9mm submachine gun
- Several high-capacity magazines
