Timmins to Hold Community Consultations on Rural Waste Collection

The City of Timmins is organizing community consultations to evaluate rural curbside waste collection options as part of a broader review of waste management services. This initiative is according to a statement released by the City. The review aims to address current waste management practices and gather resident feedback.

A significant focus of the consultations will be on residents utilizing the German, Evelyn, and Thornloe Township landfill sites. This group represents about 320 residents. Most of Timmins' population, over 97%, already benefits from curbside waste collection services.

The City has pointed out concerns regarding the capacity of rural landfills and is exploring the transition to a new Blue Box recycling system. As stated in the City’s release, consultations will involve open houses and an online survey, beginning on March 21, 2025. These events are intended to engage residents and collect diverse perspectives.
