Canada Announces $3.25 Billion Contract for Icebreaker Construction

The Government of Canada has announced a $3.25-billion contract, excluding taxes, with Chantier Davie Canada Inc. This contract involves the construction of a new polar icebreaker for the Canadian Coast Guard, under the National Shipbuilding Strategy.

Construction is planned to take place at the Chantier Davie shipyard in Lévis, Quebec, and at the Helsinki Shipyard in Finland. Additionally, another icebreaker construction is ongoing at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards.

According to Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, this initiative is intended to aid Arctic operations, focusing on scientific exploration and maritime emergency management in high Arctic regions.
