CFIA recalls three The Butcher Barn meat products in Ontario for undeclared mustard and soy

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on July 9 for three The Butcher Barn brand meat products distributed in Ontario because they contain mustard and soy that are not declared on the label.

CFIA said the undeclared allergens could cause a serious or life-threatening reaction for people who are allergic or sensitive to mustard or soy. The recall is classified as Class 1, which the agency uses for situations where there is a reasonable probability that eating the food will cause serious health consequences or death.

The recalled products include:

  • The Butcher Barn Hotdog, variable size (about 1 lb), UPC starting with 0 200227, all codes where mustard is not declared on the label
  • The Butcher Barn Mild Beef Jerky, variable size (about 1/2 lb), UPC starting with 0 200226, all codes where mustard and soy are not declared on the label
  • The Butcher Barn “Teryaki” Pepperette, variable size (about 1 lb), UPC starting with 0 200056, all codes where mustard and soy are not declared on the label

CFIA said people should not serve, use, sell or distribute the recalled products, and that recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

According to CFIA, the recall was triggered by inspection activities. The agency said there have been no reported reactions associated with consumption of these products.

CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and it is verifying that industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.

The recall identification number is RA-82293.
