Ontario Implements New School Policies on Cellphone Use and Vaping
The Ontario government has announced new measures to be implemented in schools starting September 1, 2024. These measures include restrictions on cellphone use and a ban on vaping in schools. The government is allocating $47.5 million to support these initiatives, which aim to reduce distractions and promote healthier decision-making among students.
The new policies will also include updates to the curriculum, focusing on modernized courses in business, career studies, and technological education. The government has launched an advertising campaign to inform parents about these changes.
Jill Dunlop, Minister of Education, stated that the measures are intended to help students focus on their academic achievements without the interruptions caused by cellphones and vaping. The government also plans to strengthen mandatory learning on cannabis, vaping, and digital citizenship, particularly in the elementary curriculum.
