Timmins moves daytime Canada Day activities to Hollinger Park; fireworks set for Gillies Lake
Daytime Canada Day activities in Timmins will take place at Hollinger Park on July 1, with fireworks scheduled for just after sunset over Gillies Lake Conservation Area, the City of Timmins says.
The city has also outlined where residents can park for free on July 1 and noted a temporary closure of a parking lot off Hwy. 655 to allow for fireworks set-up.
The city said it moved the daytime celebration to Hollinger Park for more space for food trucks, accessible parking and mobility, and room for inflatables and other activities. The city also said the splash pad at Hollinger Park will be open.
Festivities at Hollinger Park are set to begin at 2 p.m., with live local music starting at 4 p.m.
According to the city, McIntyre Catering will provide complimentary hamburgers, hotdogs, a vegetarian option and bottled water while supplies last.
Fireworks are planned for just after sunset, around 9:45 p.m., over Gillies Lake Conservation Area.
The city said free on-street parking will be available July 1 at all municipal meters.
It also said free parking will be available in these city lots: Spruce N. Lot, Algonquin Lot, Third Ave. Lot, Pine S. Lot, Library Lot, and Coalition Lot (Timmins Transit).
The Hollinger Park parking lot will be reserved for accessible parking and passenger pick-up and drop-off, with a limited number of spaces available, the city said.
The city said the parking lot off Hwy. 655 will be closed from 6 a.m. June 30 through July 1 for fireworks set-up and the display.
