Timmins council approves two tanker trucks and a pumper for fire department
Timmins city council has approved buying three new fire apparatus for the Timmins Fire Department: two tanker trucks expected to be delivered in 2027 and one pumper truck expected by the end of 2028, according to a city news release.
The purchases outline when the department expects to replace some existing vehicles and where the new equipment is intended to be assigned, including Stations 1, 3 and 5.
According to the city release, two tanker trucks will be purchased from Dependable Truck & Tank Ltd. in Brampton for a total cost of $1,739,602 plus HST. Each tanker is expected to carry 8,000 litres of water and have frontline pumping capabilities.
The city says tanker trucks are used for rural fire suppression and to establish and maintain water supply during emergency operations. The release says the new tankers will replace aging units at Station 1 and Station 3, with delivery expected in 2027.
Council also approved buying one pumper truck from City View Specialty Vehicles in Mississauga for $1,481,500, the city said. The pumper is expected to be built on a Rosenbauer Commander chassis.
According to the release, the pumper is intended to serve as the frontline truck for Station 5 and provide response across Timmins. The city said the truck is expected to include an onboard water tank, a permanently mounted pump and storage for initial-response equipment, with delivery expected by the end of 2028.
“Both pumpers and tankers allow firefighters to arrive on scene with an immediate water supply, pumping capabilities, and the equipment needed to protect people and property,” Fire Chief Scott Atkinson said in the release. He said the purchases are intended to replace “aging apparatus” in the city’s fire fleet.
