Porcupine watermain valve replacement planned Oct. 15; service disruption possible on Rekela and Young
Work to replace a watermain valve in Porcupine is scheduled for Oct. 15, 2026, with possible water service disruption from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on parts of Rekela Street and Young Street, the City of Timmins Environmental Services Department said.
The city said people in the affected area could see low or fluctuating water pressure, discoloured water, or a temporary loss of water while the work is underway.
The city said the disruption area includes Rekela Street from Highway 101 E to Young Street, and Young Street from Rekela Street to Florence Street.
Discoloured water may appear yellow, brown, or reddish.
If water becomes discoloured, the city advised residents not to drink or use it. The city said the discolouration is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.
The city advised residents to run a cold-water tap—preferably an outside tap or a cold basement tap—for five to 15 minutes until the water runs clear, and to avoid using hot water and doing laundry until the water is clear.
