Timmins to flush hydrants north of Algonquin Boulevard July 2–31; low pressure and discoloured water possible
All areas north of Algonquin Boulevard in Timmins are scheduled for hydrant flushing from July 2 to July 31, with work planned daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The city says residents and businesses in the area could see lower water pressure and discoloured tap water during the work.
The flushing could temporarily affect household and business water use in Timmins’ north area, particularly if tap water becomes brown or rust-coloured or if water pressure drops.
According to the City of Timmins’ Environmental Services & Public Utilities Department, all homes and businesses in the affected area could experience coloured water and/or lower water pressure.
The city recommends residents not drink discoloured water or use it to wash laundry. The city says discoloured water is not harmful to health, but it can stain laundry.
If discoloured water occurs, residents can turn on the cold-water tap closest to the source—usually the laundry tub tap—and let it run for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the water returns to its normal colour.
