Timmins Transit Reduces Bus Frequency for Summer
Timmins Transit will implement a reduced frequency schedule for the summer months due to a driver shortage. The new schedule, effective from June 13 to August, will change some routes from every 30 minutes to every 45 minutes.
The City Council approved this temporary measure to alleviate driver fatigue and stress. According to Ken Krcel, Director of Public Works and Environmental Services, the reduction aims to prevent driver burnout and maintain service levels. Last summer, vacation requests were canceled due to the shortage.
The revised schedule will decrease the total number of driving hours each day, allowing for time off without canceling routes. Historical data indicates a decline in ridership during the summer, making this an optimal time for the change.
