CBSA Reports 2024 Activities and Border Management Efforts

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has reported its activities for 2024, highlighting its role in managing Canada's borders. The agency operates at 1,200 ports of entry across the country, with approximately 8,500 frontline employees. Between January 1 and October 31, 2024, the CBSA processed 4.5 million commercial trucks and welcomed over 80.5 million travellers. During this period, the agency seized more dangerous drugs and firearms, and intercepted more stolen vehicles compared to 2023.

The CBSA's efforts in 2024 included making approximately 7,700 weapons and firearms seizures at ports of entry, preventing over 15,600 weapons and 850 firearms from entering the streets. Additionally, the agency seized over 25,600 kg of illegal drugs. The CBSA also worked with international partners, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, to secure the border and prevent the entry of harmful goods and people.

In terms of economic support, the CBSA processed nearly 4.5 million commercial trucks into Canada and assessed approximately $32.5 billion in duties and taxes. The agency launched the Canada Border Services Agency Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) system on October 21, 2024, to streamline the assessment and collection of duties and taxes for commercial goods imported into Canada.

The CBSA also engaged in international collaborations, such as participating in the 2024 U.S.–Canada Cross Border Crime Forum and signing agreements with the European Union and the United Kingdom to enhance border security and facilitate trade.
