CFIA recalls Alarjawi Green Zaatar (450 g) over possible Salmonella contamination
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has issued a food recall warning for Alarjawi brand Green Zaatar (450 g) because of possible Salmonella contamination. The recall notice was originally published May 5, 2026.
The CFIA says food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. The agency says young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious and sometimes deadly infections.
The recalled product is Alarjawi Green Zaatar sold in a 450 g package with UPC 6 212055 026230. The listed codes are “P: 29/04/2025” and “E: 28/10/2026 K1.” Greenworld Food Express Inc. is the recalling firm.
The product was distributed in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan, and possibly other provinces and territories.
The CFIA advises people not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled product. The agency says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
CFIA test results triggered the recall. As of May 5, 2026, the agency reported no illnesses associated with consumption of the product.
The CFIA says it is conducting a food safety investigation that could lead to the recall of other products. It is also verifying that the recalled product is being removed from the marketplace.
According to the CFIA, healthy people infected with Salmonella may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. The agency says long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
