CFIA recalls Farm Boy and Kyan Culture organic microgreens sold in Ontario and Quebec due to possible E. coli
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled certain 65 g packages of Farm Boy and Kyan Culture organic microgreens sold in Ontario and Quebec due to possible contamination with pathogenic E. coli, according to a food recall warning last updated May 15.
The CFIA said food contaminated with pathogenic E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick. The agency said symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea.
The CFIA said people should not consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled products. The agency said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
The affected products are 65 g packages with the following UPCs and best-before dates:
- Farm Boy Organic Broccoli Microgreens — UPC 8 50863 00030 9 — all best-before dates up to and including May 22, 2026
- Farm Boy Organic Mild Mix Microgreens — UPC 8 50863 00032 3 — all best-before dates up to and including May 19, 2026
- Farm Boy Organic Spring Mix Microgreens — UPC 8 50863 00039 2 — all best-before dates up to and including May 19, 2026
- Kyan Culture Organic Microgreens – Broccoli — UPC 8 50863 00004 0 — all best-before dates up to and including May 22, 2026
- Kyan Culture Organic Microgreens – Mild Mix — UPC not available — all best-before dates up to and including May 19, 2026
- Kyan Culture Organic Microgreens – Spring Mix — UPC 8 50863 00028 6 — all best-before dates up to and including May 19, 2026
In severe cases of illness, the CFIA said some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis, or live with permanent kidney damage. The agency said people may die in severe cases.
The CFIA said the recall was triggered by the company, and the recalling firm is Kyan Culture Inc. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products, the agency said.
The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and it is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace. The recall is classified as Class 1 under identification number RA-82090.
