CFIA recalls Shaoxing cooking wine sold in Ontario over undeclared wheat

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning May 14 for Shaoxing cooking wine sold in Ontario after the product was found to contain undeclared wheat. CFIA classified the recall as Class 1 and assigned it identification number RA-82076.

The recall matters for people with wheat allergies or sensitivities, and for those with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders. CFIA warned that consuming the recalled product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

According to CFIA, the recalled item is Shaoxing cooking wine sold under the brand “None (Chinese characters),” in a 600 mL size. The UPC is 6 912657 104298 and the best before date is 2028/05/15.

CFIA said people should not serve, use, sell or distribute the recalled product. It said the product should be thrown out or returned to the location where it was purchased.

The recalling firm is LinkGlobal Food Inc., according to the agency.

CFIA said the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint, and it reported that no reactions have been associated with consumption of the product.

The agency said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and that it is verifying the recalled product is being removed from the marketplace.
