CFIA recalls Shirreza Tahini Halva with Date Sap over possible Salmonella contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on May 15, 2026, for Shirreza brand Tahini Halva with Date Sap because of possible Salmonella contamination. The recall applies to 400 g packages with UPC 6 261747 302923 and best-before code BB: 12-27, with distribution listed in Ontario and British Columbia.

The CFIA said Salmonella-contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness, with older adults among those who may face more serious outcomes.

The CFIA advises people not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. The agency says the product should be thrown out or returned to the location where it was purchased.

According to the CFIA, healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. The agency said long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Hafez International Trading Inc. is listed by the CFIA as the recalling firm.

No illnesses had been reported as of May 15, the CFIA said.

The CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

The notice lists the recall as Class 2, identification number RA-82087.
