CFIA warns of possible E. coli contamination in Les Fermes Lufa broccoli microgreens sold online in Ontario and Quebec

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on May 21 for Les Fermes Lufa brand broccoli microgreens sold online in Ontario and Quebec, citing possible contamination with pathogenic E. coli. The affected product was sold from April 20 to May 8, 2026.

The warning applies to people who bought microgreens online during that period, because food contaminated with pathogenic E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness.

The CFIA advised people not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. The agency said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.

The recall applies to Les Fermes Lufa broccoli microgreens sold in a 50 g package. No UPC was provided.

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by the company. The agency also said there have been no reported illnesses associated with consumption of the product.

Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps, and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases, illness can involve seizures or strokes and may require blood transfusions or kidney dialysis. Permanent kidney damage and death are also possible.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products. The CFIA is also verifying that the product is being removed from the marketplace.

The recall is classified as Class 1 and is listed under identification number RA-82109.
