City of Timmins to run property standards blitz May 11–29; free landfill load offered May 11–25

The City of Timmins will run a Property Standards Blitz from May 11 to May 29, with Enforcement Services checking exterior property conditions such as garbage and pet waste, overgrown grass or trees, and whether vacant buildings are secured.

The blitz coincides with a limited-time waste drop-off offer at the Deloro Landfill. From May 11 to May 25, each residential dwelling in Timmins (based on address) can bring one free load of household waste to the landfill.

The blitz will be carried out under Municipal By-Law 2007-6489, which sets standards for the maintenance and physical condition of properties, including buildings and structures. It also involves By-Law 2008-6599, which sets requirements for clearing refuse and debris from land.

Checks during the blitz may include proper disposal of garbage and pet waste; exterior building conditions that could pose a fire or accident hazard; long grass or overgrown trees; and the security of vacant buildings.

“Our enforcement officers will be focusing on exterior property conditions,” said Steph Palmateer, Timmins’ Director of Community Services and City Clerk.

This is the second year the City of Timmins has held a coordinated property standards blitz. The city reported that in 2025, about 130 property standards cases were reviewed and all were resolved by year-end.
