Karen C. Perron, associate judge from Timmins, appointed to Ontario Superior Court in Ottawa
Federal Justice Minister Sean Fraser announced May 29 that Karen C. Perron, an associate judge in Ottawa who is from Timmins, has been appointed to the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario in Ottawa.
The Superior Court of Justice is Ontario’s superior trial court. Perron’s appointment fills an Ottawa-based vacancy that followed a resignation and a reassignment involving other judges.
Fraser’s announcement said Perron replaces Justice L. Lacelle of Kingston, who resigned effective Dec. 31, 2025. It said the court’s chief justice transferred Justice R. Ryan Bell of Ottawa into the Kingston position, leaving the vacancy in Ottawa.
In a statement included with the announcement, Fraser said he wished Perron success in her new role.
Perron earned Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Ontario bar in 2004, the Department of Justice said in a biographical note.
The biography said Perron was appointed an associate judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa in 2024.
It said she began practising law as an associate at Merovitz Potechin in Ottawa. In 2011, she joined Borden Ladner Gervais as an associate and became a partner in 2014. The biography said her work included commercial litigation, insolvency, contractual matters, shareholder disputes and construction law.
According to the biography, Perron served as president of the Ontario Bar Association from 2021 to 2023.
The Department of Justice said federal judicial appointments are made by the Governor General on the advice of the federal cabinet and on the recommendation of the minister of justice.
