Lake Timiskaming water level rising about 20 cm per day, PSPC says
Water levels on the north end of Lake Timiskaming are rising by about 20 centimetres per day and could reach or exceed 179.56 metres—the lake’s maximum operating level—by the end of the week, according to Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).
PSPC said the forecast rise is linked to significant rainfall and rapid snowmelt in the Ottawa River watershed. The department’s April 30 media advisory is directed to municipalities and residents around Lake Timiskaming, particularly those in low-lying areas and along shorelines.
In the advisory, PSPC encouraged municipalities and residents in low-lying and shoreline areas to monitor local conditions and “prepare accordingly.”
PSPC also recommended that residents keep up with forecasts and warnings from Environment and Climate Change Canada.
PSPC said it will continue monitoring weather forecasts, river flows and water levels, and the notice will remain in effect until conditions change.
