Lane reductions to begin this week on Highway 101 East between Crawford Street and Porcupine Mall in Timmins

Traffic controls and site mobilization will begin this week on Highway 101 East in Timmins between Crawford Street and the Porcupine Mall, with lane reductions and reduced speeds planned through the work zone.

The work affects a busy stretch used by drivers heading to the mall and nearby businesses, and it is expected to continue into the fall as part of ongoing construction near the Porcupine River Bridge.

The project is in its second year of a two-year effort to reconstruct the eastbound approach to the Porcupine River Bridge. The City of Timmins said construction is anticipated to be completed this fall.

According to the city, the work is part of Segment 13 of its Connecting Link project. The segment includes full asphalt restoration, drainage improvements, street lights, and traffic signal upgrades.

The city also says the work includes installing a larger water main to increase capacity in Timmins’ water distribution system.

A new sidewalk between Crawford Street and the Porcupine Mall is planned to be added this summer.

Like last year, the work will require lane reductions only. During the first phase, traffic will be shifted to the south side of the highway.

Drivers should expect delays. The city said access to the Porcupine Mall and businesses on the north side of Highway 101 East will be maintained during construction.
