Lane reductions to begin this week on Highway 101 East in Timmins between Crawford Street and Porcupine Mall

Lane reductions and lower speed limits are expected to begin this week on Highway 101 East in Timmins between Crawford Street and the Porcupine Mall as reconstruction work continues, the City of Timmins announced.

The work will affect traffic on Timmins’ east end, with drivers advised to expect minor delays while crews are working. Construction is anticipated to be completed this fall.

The city said the work is the second year of a two-year project to reconstruct the highway eastbound toward the Porcupine River Bridge.

The construction area is Segment 13 of Timmins’ Connecting Link project. The city said the scope of work includes full asphalt restoration, drainage improvements, and upgrades to street lights and traffic signals.

The project also includes installing a larger watermain to increase capacity in the city’s water distribution system.

A new sidewalk between Crawford Street and the Porcupine Mall is planned to be added this summer.

The city said lane reductions are expected during construction, similar to last year. During the first phase of work, traffic will be shifted to the south side of Highway 101 East.

Access to the Porcupine Mall and businesses on the north side of Highway 101 East will be maintained during construction, according to the city.
