Minister Highlights Francophone Immigration Contributions

The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, issued a statement in recognition of National Francophone Immigration Week. This marks the 12th edition of the event, which is themed 'Our Heritage for Tomorrow.' The week is intended to acknowledge the contributions of Francophone immigrants to Canada's cultural and economic landscape.

Minister Miller highlighted that in 2023, Canada surpassed its target by admitting 19,700 new French-speaking permanent residents outside Quebec. The government aims to increase this number, setting a target of 6% for 2024. The statement also referenced the Policy on Francophone Immigration and measures announced in January 2024 to support Francophone minority communities.

The 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan was also mentioned, with targets set to increase the admission of French-speaking permanent residents outside Quebec to 8.5% in 2025, 9.5% in 2026, and 10% in 2027. These targets are part of efforts to bolster the demographic presence of Francophone communities.

Minister Miller emphasized the importance of preserving Francophone heritage and integrating newcomers into Canadian society. The statement concluded with a call to share Francophone culture with future generations.
