Ontario Minimum Wage to Rise to $17.60 per Hour in October 2025
The Ontario government has announced an increase in the minimum wage, raising it from $17.20 to $17.60 per hour, effective October 1, 2025. This change aligns with a 2.4 percent increase in the Ontario Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation and cost of living adjustments.
Following this adjustment, Ontario will have the second-highest minimum wage rate among Canadian provinces. The increase affects various categories of workers across different sectors, particularly impacting those in the restaurant and retail industries who earn minimum wage.
In addition to the general minimum wage increase, specific provisions apply to groups such as students under 18, who work 28 hours a week or less during the school year, liquor servers, and hunting and fishing guides, ensuring uniform standards across the province.
Residents in Northeast Ontario, including those in Timmins and surrounding communities, will experience these changes along with the rest of the province. The economic impact on both businesses and workers will be monitored as the new wage takes effect.
