Smooth Rock Falls Fire Department Receives Safety Alarms
Enbridge Gas Inc. and the Smooth Rock Falls Fire Department have announced a collaboration aimed at enhancing home safety in Smooth Rock Falls. The initiative, part of the Safe Community Project Zero, involves the distribution of 60 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to the local community. This project is a public education campaign conducted in partnership with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council.
The Safe Community Project Zero is supported by Enbridge Gas, which has invested $450,000 this year. The program aims to provide over 14,500 alarms to residents across 75 communities in Ontario. Since its inception 16 years ago, the initiative has distributed more than 101,000 alarms to fire departments across the province.
Claude Baril, Operations Supervisor for Enbridge Gas in Kapuskasing, emphasized the importance of maintaining fuel-burning equipment to reduce carbon monoxide exposure. He described the alarms as a critical second line of defense against carbon monoxide poisoning.
Ontario Fire Marshal Jon Pegg highlighted the renewed focus on the necessity of working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in homes. The program aims to deliver these alarms to areas where they are most needed, assisting fire departments in educating communities about safety requirements.
Fire Chief Michel Pelletier of the Smooth Rock Falls Fire Department expressed gratitude for the alarms, which will be used during annual home inspections to support community safety.
