Smooth Rock Falls to hold Oct. 19 hearing on 66 Breton Crescent garage setback variance

Smooth Rock Falls’ Committee of Adjustment will hold a public hearing on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at 5:45 p.m. at Town Hall, 142 First Avenue, to consider a minor variance for 66 Breton Crescent that would allow an attached garage to be built with a smaller setback than the town’s zoning bylaw requires.

The hearing is part of the town’s process for considering requests to vary zoning standards for a specific property, and it gives residents a chance to hear what is being requested and provide comments before a decision is made.

According to the town’s notice, the applicant, Michel Lavoie, is seeking relief from section 5.3 of Smooth Rock Falls Zoning By-law 2016-14, as amended.

The application requests permission for a 0.4-metre setback, where the notice says a minimum setback of 0.9 metres is required, to allow construction of a garage attached to the existing single detached dwelling.

The notice says the public can participate either in person or through a Zoom webinar.

The property is identified in the notice as 66 Breton Crescent and described legally as Lot 8, Registered Plan M326C, Parcel 7546.

The town said the hearing will be held under section 45(1) of Ontario’s Planning Act.
