Statistics Canada starts phone and door-to-door follow-ups for 2026 Census questionnaires
Statistics Canada says it began follow-up work on June 2, 2026, contacting households that have not yet completed the 2026 Census of Population questionnaire. The agency says the follow-ups include phone calls and door-to-door visits in communities across Canada.
The follow-up effort affects households that have not yet returned a completed census questionnaire, and it may involve a visit from a census enumerator or a phone call. Statistics Canada says enumerators are contacting homes where a completed questionnaire has not been received.
According to the agency, the visits are intended to remind residents to complete the census and to offer help. Statistics Canada says enumerators can assist people to fill out the questionnaire in person if they have not completed it or are unable to do so on their own.
Statistics Canada says it has hired thousands of census enumerators across the country for this work. The agency says the majority were recruited to work in or near the communities where they live.
Statistics Canada says census employees carry official identification.
The agency also says follow-up activities are beginning for the 2026 Census of Agriculture. Statistics Canada says its employees will communicate with respondents by phone and email.
Statistics Canada describes the Census of Population as collecting demographic, social and economic information from households across Canada, while the Census of Agriculture gathers information from agricultural operations. Statistics Canada says the two censuses provide data used to guide decisions about programs, services and infrastructure in communities across Canada.
