Timmins awards $17.96M contract to rebuild two Algonquin Boulevard East Connecting Link segments

Timmins city council has awarded a $17,960,701.85 contract, plus HST, to GIP Interpaving Ltd. to reconstruct Connecting Link segments 9 and 10 on Algonquin Boulevard East, from Brunette Road to Father Costello Drive East. The work is planned over two years.

The project is expected to affect traffic on a busy stretch of Algonquin Boulevard East. The city says construction will require lane reductions with phased traffic control, and that access to businesses and properties will be maintained throughout.

Work is scheduled to begin this year on Segment 9, a section of about 700 metres from Brunette Road to Highway 655.

Plans for Segment 9 include full road reconstruction with new asphalt, curbs, sidewalks and traffic medians.

The work also includes replacing sections of watermain and storm sewer infrastructure.

Traffic signals at Brunette Road and Highway 655 will be replaced, and streetlights will be upgraded to meet current standards.

“We are also working closely with Cochrane District Paramedic Service,” said Scott Tam, the city’s director of growth and infrastructure. “Emergency service operations, including ambulance access, will remain uninterrupted during construction.”

The city says it has spoken directly with business and property owners in Segment 9 and will continue to provide updates.

GIP Interpaving Ltd. will also complete Segment 13 of the Connecting Link this year.

The city expects to release an updated construction timeline in the coming weeks. The city has not confirmed an exact start date for Segment 9 and will provide updates as they become available.
