Timmins business owner charged after police say window-damage confrontation led to assault
A Timmins business owner has been charged with aggravated assault and other offences after police say the owner pursued and confronted a person suspected of damaging a window at the business, leading to an assault in which a weapon was used. The injured person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Timmins Police Service said in a June 29, 2026 update.
Police included a public safety reminder in the update, asking residents not to pursue or physically confront suspects and to focus on personal safety instead.
Timmins police said officers were originally called to a report of mischief after an individual allegedly damaged a window at a local business and left on foot. Police said the business owner followed and confronted the individual.
During that encounter, police said a weapon was used and the individual suffered serious injuries. Police said the injured person was transported to hospital and later described the injuries as non-life-threatening.
Following the investigation, Timmins police said the business owner has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
Police said the other individual involved has also been charged with mischief under $5,000.
In its update, Timmins Police Service said people who witness a crime in progress or become victims should make personal safety their first priority. Police said residents should move to a safe location, note descriptions or a direction of travel when it is safe to do so, and contact police as soon as possible.
Police said the investigation has concluded and no further information will be released.
