Timmins City Council approves purchase of two fire tankers and a pumper, with deliveries expected in 2027 and 2028
Timmins City Council has approved buying three new fire trucks for the Timmins Fire Department: two tanker trucks from Dependable Truck & Tank Ltd. of Brampton for $1,739,602 plus HST, and one pumper truck from City View Specialty Vehicles of Mississauga for $1,481,500. The city expects the tankers to be delivered in 2027 and the pumper by the end of 2028.
The purchases are intended to replace aging equipment at two fire stations and update the frontline truck assigned to another station, according to the city’s announcement.
The two tankers are slated to replace older units at Station 1 and Station 3. The city said each tanker will carry 8,000 litres of water and include frontline pumping capabilities.
Tankers are used to establish and maintain water supply during emergency operations, the city said.
The pumper will be built on a Rosenbauer Commander chassis. The city said it will serve as the frontline truck for Station 5 and provide response across Timmins.
The pumper is designed to be self-sufficient, with an onboard water tank, a permanently mounted pump and storage capacity, according to the city.
“Both pumpers and tankers allow firefighters to arrive on scene with an immediate water supply, pumping capabilities, and the equipment needed to protect people and property,” Fire Chief Scott Atkinson said. He said the city needs to replace aging apparatus to support the long-term reliability of the fire fleet and emergency response.
