Timmins fire crews to conduct door-to-door home inspections May through October 2026

Timmins fire crews will go door to door from May through October 2026 as part of the Timmins Fire Department’s annual Home Inspection Program, the City of Timmins said in a May 20 notice. During the visits, crews will check that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working and will discuss home escape plans with residents.

The city said the inspections are focused on Ontario Fire Code requirements for home alarms, including a carbon monoxide alarm requirement that is new in 2026.

Under the Ontario Fire Code, residences are required to have working smoke alarms on every level of the home and outside sleeping areas.

Also new in 2026, the city said the Fire Code requires working carbon monoxide alarms on every level of a home if the home has a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace, or an attached garage. The city also said the requirement applies if air for heating comes from a fuel-burning appliance that is not contained within the residence.

The city did not provide a schedule for inspections or say how homes will be selected for door-to-door visits.
