Timmins imposes city-wide fire ban due to dry conditions
The Timmins Fire Department has imposed a city-wide fire ban effective immediately, citing a lack of precipitation and extremely dry conditions.
For Timmins residents, the ban means outdoor burning is not allowed anywhere within city limits until further notice, and previously issued burning permits are suspended.
The fire department said the ban prohibits all open-air burning and open flames. Prohibited activities include campfires, outdoor fireplaces, outdoor fire pits, incinerator burning, and brush and slash pile burning.
Propane-fueled fire pits and propane or natural gas barbecues are allowed during the ban. The fire department urged residents to use them with caution.
The fire department said anyone who sets or maintains an open-air fire during the ban may be held responsible for resulting damages and suppression costs. The department said violations may also lead to fines and other penalties.
The department has not said when the ban will be lifted.
