Timmins man, 39, charged after April 16 traffic stop; police estimate $53,020 in drugs seized

Timmins police have charged a 39-year-old Timmins man after an April 16 traffic stop near 741 Algonquin Boulevard East that police say led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, as well as $2,990 in cash. Police estimated the street value of the drugs at about $53,020.

The case includes allegations of drug-impaired driving and drug trafficking-related offences, along with a charge of possessing proceeds of crime.

A Timmins Police Service Traffic Division officer saw a man operating a motorcycle at about 2:45 p.m. near 741 Algonquin Boulevard East, police said. Police said the rider was prohibited from operating any motor vehicle.

Police said the officer observed signs consistent with drug impairment and no evidence of alcohol use. The man was arrested at about 3 p.m. for operation while impaired, police said.

A Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) demand was issued and the accused complied, police said. Police said custody was transferred to a certified drug recognition expert for further evaluation, and the evaluating officer formed the opinion that the accused’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.

Police said they found $2,990 in cash during a search and believe it was proceeds of crime. Police said a search of a backpack in the man’s possession led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.

Police said the seized substances weighed:

  • 220.9 grams of suspected green fentanyl
  • 31.1 grams of suspected brown fentanyl
  • 7.2 grams of suspected crack cocaine
  • 19 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine

Timmins police identified the accused as Scott Santerre, 39, of Timmins.

Santerre is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration
  • Three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of proceeds of crime

Santerre was held for a bail hearing on April 17 and remanded into custody, police said.
