Timmins man charged with impaired driving and drug trafficking after Kamiskotia Road stop, police say

A 30-year-old Timmins man is facing impaired-driving, drug-trafficking and traffic-related charges after Timmins Police Service officers stopped a vehicle on Kamiskotia Road on May 21. Police said officers seized a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, morphine, cocaine and heroin.

The stop happened after officers spotted a westbound vehicle displaying an unauthorized licence plate, according to the Timmins Police Service. The arrest and charges are among the latest reported by Timmins police involving alleged drug-impaired driving and suspected controlled substances.

The Timmins Police Service said its Traffic Unit, assisted by patrol officers, conducted the stop on Kamiskotia Road.

Officers reported seeing signs consistent with drug impairment while speaking with the driver, police said.

Police identified the driver as Nicolas Malette, 30, of Timmins. He is charged with operation while impaired — drugs, operation while impaired — blood drug concentration, and dangerous operation.

Malette also faces five counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Police laid additional charges of use plate not authorized, driving while under suspension, fail to comply with Provincial Offences Act probation, and owner operate motor vehicle on highway — no insurance.

Police said the passenger, Natalie Pilon, 37, of Timmins, was arrested on an outstanding Ontario Provincial Police warrant.

Malette remained in custody and was scheduled to attend a bail hearing on May 22, police said.
